Biography & Author's Journey

Rick Riordan was born on June 5, 1964, in San Antonio, Texas, and grew up in a family shaped by teaching, music, and art. At Alamo Heights High School, he worked on the school newspaper and placed in state feature writing, early signs of a literary life that would emerge fully only after other ambitions had been tested. He began college at North Texas State with plans centered on music, then transferred to the University of Texas at Austin, where he completed a double major in English and history, later earning teaching certification through the University of Texas at San Antonio. For fifteen years he taught middle school in California and Texas, and at Saint Mary’s Hall in San Antonio he received the school’s first Master Teacher Award. During those same years, he began publishing the adult Tres Navarre mysteries, a series that went on to win the Edgar, Anthony, and Shamus awards. ((https://rickriordan.com/about/))
