Andy Staples
Andy Staples is an American sports journalist focused on college football, known for reported columns, analysis, and podcasts at On3, The Athletic, and Sports Illustrated. He hosts Andy & Ari On3 and previously The Andy Staples Show. His 2008 Georgia-Alabama game story won the Football Writers Association of America’s Best Writing contest.

Andy Staples built his career from the ground level of Southeastern sports journalism. A graduate of the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications, where he earned a B.S. in journalism in 2000 and also played football with the Gators, he moved first through newspaper reporting jobs at the Chattanooga Times Free Press and The Tampa Tribune. Those early assignments, covering Tennessee sports in one stop and Florida athletics in the next, gave him a close view of coaching cultures, fan expectations, and the institutional machinery behind college sports, a foundation that would shape the rest of his work.
