Marissa Meyer’s career grew from a long, early attachment to story into one of the most recognizable bodies of work in contemporary young adult fiction. She studied creative writing at Pacific Lutheran University and later earned a master’s degree in publishing from Pace University, pairing literary ambition with practical knowledge of how books are made. Before becoming a full-time author, she worked as an editor and later as a freelance typesetter and proofreader. An important formative turn came in her teens, when anime and fanfiction opened a participatory writing world: under the pen name Alicia Blade, she completed more than forty Sailor Moon fanfics, gaining both discipline and an audience before ever publishing a novel.
