Born: August 10, 1962 – Hartford, Connecticut, United States
Suzanne Collins is an American author and screenwriter best known for the young adult dystopian series The Hunger Games, which has sold millions of copies worldwide and been translated into over fifty languages. She also wrote the bestselling children's fantasy series The Underland Chronicles, and her works have earned multiple literary awards and widespread international acclaim.
Suzanne Collins, born August 10, 1962, in Hartford, Connecticut, experienced a peripatetic childhood as the youngest child in a military family, moving frequently due to her father’s career as an Air Force officer and history teacher. These formative experiences—notably her exposure to the aftereffects of war and varied cultures—informed much of her later work. After graduating from the Alabama School of Fine Arts in 1980, Collins pursued dual majors in theater and telecommunications at Indiana University, further refining her narrative skills with an M.F.A. in dramatic writing from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in 1989.
