Maggie Stiefvater is an American novelist known for young adult fantasy and paranormal fiction blending folklore, mystery, and lyrical prose. Her notable books include Shiver, The Raven Cycle, and The Scorpio Races. A #1 New York Times bestselling author, she earned a Michael L. Printz Honor for The Scorpio Races.
Maggie Stiefvater grew up in Virginia and was homeschooled from sixth grade onward before earning a B.A. in history from Mary Washington College. Long before publication, she had written numerous manuscripts; after college she worked as a portrait artist, especially in equestrian art, while also maintaining an active life in music. Her first published novel was Lament in 2008, but the decisive commercial turning point came with Shiver, which spent more than forty weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and made her a major presence in young adult fiction.
