Leigh Bardugo is an Israeli-American novelist known for YA and adult fantasy, especially the Grishaverse books Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows, as well as Ninth House and Hell Bent. A multiple New York Times bestselling author, her work has been translated into dozens of languages and adapted for television.
Leigh Bardugo was born in Jerusalem in 1975 and raised in Los Angeles, where an early sense of outsidership and a strong attachment to fantasy eventually fed her fiction. She studied English at Yale, an experience that would later resurface in the occult campus world of Ninth House. Before publication, her route to authorship was indirect: she worked in copywriting, advertising, journalism, and makeup and special effects. Those years helped shape the practical cast of mind she has often brought to writing. She emerged not as a prodigy but as a persistent worker, learning that her process depended on structure, outlining, and the willingness to make an imperfect first draft.
