Christina Lauren is the shared pen name of Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings, a writing partnership that grew out of online fandom into one of contemporary romance’s most recognizable brands. They first connected through Twilight fan fiction and deepened the friendship around a San Diego Comic-Con panel on fan works in 2009. At that point, Billings was applying her doctorate in neuroscience from UC Irvine to research on neurodegeneration and aging, while Hobbs was working in a junior high counseling office. Their collaboration moved quickly from hobby to vocation: after writing together in fandom and trying shorter collaborative pieces, they developed the material that became Beautiful Bastard, the 2013 novel that helped carry them from internet readership into mainstream publishing.
