Steve Magness is a performance coach, writer, and researcher focused on endurance training, mental toughness, and sustainable excellence. He is the author of The Science of Running and Win the Inside Game and co-author of Peak Performance and Do Hard Things. His work has influenced athletes, coaches, and business leaders.
Steve Magness first came to public attention through running. As a high school athlete, he ran 4:01 for the mile, a mark his website describes as the sixth-fastest high school mile in U.S. history at the time. He later earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Houston and a graduate degree from George Mason University. His academic path began in exercise physiology and later expanded into mental performance, giving his later work a combined focus on the body, the mind, and the relationship between them. He went on to coach widely, working with Olympians, athletes from every major professional sports league, executives, entrepreneurs, artists, and members of the U.S. military.
