He shared the 1965 Nobel Prize in Physics, authored Surely You’re Joking, Mr. Feynman! and co-created The Feynman Lectures on Physics, which remain widely used in science education.

He studied physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning his undergraduate degree in 1939, and then completed a Ph.D. at Princeton in 1942 under John Archibald Wheeler.
