Kim Michele Richardson is a Kentucky novelist and memoirist whose work is rooted in personal survival and in the landscapes and histories of her home state. Public biographical accounts describe a childhood spent in a rural Kentucky orphanage, followed by poverty and homelessness as a teenager; those experiences later informed her memoir, The Unbreakable Child. In 2024, Eastern Kentucky University awarded her an honorary Doctor of Humanities, recognizing the cultural reach of work that has repeatedly returned to eastern Kentucky and its people.
