David Bach is an American personal-finance author and educator whose work focuses on saving, investing, homeownership, and automated wealth building. He is best known for The Automatic Millionaire and Smart Women Finish Rich. His books have sold millions of copies and helped popularize simple, habit-based money management.
David Bach built his career at the intersection of financial advice, mass communication, and consumer education. Raised in Oakland, California, he was introduced to investing unusually early: at seven, his grandmother Rose helped him buy a share of McDonald’s, an experience he has repeatedly described as formative. He later studied social sciences and communication at the University of Southern California, graduating in 1990. After a start in commercial real estate, he moved into wealth management, eventually becoming a senior vice president at Morgan Stanley and a partner in The Bach Group, where he worked with affluent clients while sharpening the plainspoken style that would define his public work.
