Mike Michalowicz, born in 1970 in New Jersey, has emerged as one of the most influential voices in small business entrepreneurship. Raised in Boonton Township, he attended Boonton High School and went on to graduate from Virginia Tech in 1993 with degrees in finance and management science. Early in his career, Michalowicz founded Olmec Systems in 1996, which he sold in a private equity transaction seven years later. He further established his entrepreneurial credentials by co-founding a computer forensic firm instrumental in the Enron scandal investigation, which was acquired by Robert Half International in 2006. Though these early ventures brought him significant financial success, his journey was far from straightforward—by his mid-30s, after a stint as an angel investor, he lost his entire fortune and faced a period of deep personal and professional struggle, including depression and insomnia.
