C.G. Jung

Born: July 26, 1875 – Kesswil, Thurgau, Switzerland

C.G. Jung was a Swiss psychiatrist and founder of analytical psychology whose work explored the unconscious, archetypes, individuation, and personality. His notable books include Psychological Types, Symbols of Transformation, and Man and His Symbols. Jung’s ideas, including introversion and extraversion, deeply influenced psychotherapy, literature, religion, and cultural criticism.

Biography & Author's Journey

Carl Gustav Jung was born on July 26, 1875, in Kesswil, Switzerland, and grew up in a family shaped by Protestant ministry, intellectual seriousness, and financial modesty. The son of a Swiss Reformed pastor, he developed early interests in religion, symbolism, dreams, and the hidden motives of human behavior. He studied medicine at the University of Basel and chose psychiatry at a time when the field was still defining itself. At the Burghölzli clinic in Zurich, working under Eugen Bleuler, he gained recognition for studies on word association and psychological complexes, research that helped establish him as a serious young clinician and investigator of the mind.
