Born: October 15, 1844 – Röcken, Saxony, Prussia
Friedrich Nietzsche was a German philosopher and classical philologist whose influential works, including Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Beyond Good and Evil, and On the Genealogy of Morals, challenged conventional morality, religion, and truth. His radical concepts such as the Übermensch and “God is dead” shaped modern existentialism, psychology, and twentieth-century intellectual thought.
Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche was born on October 15, 1844, in the small town of Röcken, Prussia. The son of a Lutheran pastor, Nietzsche’s early years were marked by the strong religious environment of his family, though his father died when Nietzsche was just five, leading the family to relocate to Naumburg. He demonstrated exceptional academic promise, attending the prestigious boarding school at Schulpforta, after which he went on to study classical philology at the universities of Bonn and Leipzig. It was during his time in Leipzig that Nietzsche encountered the works of Arthur Schopenhauer, igniting a deep and enduring engagement with philosophy.
