Nato: July 26, 1875 – Kesswil, Thurgau, Switzerland
Carl Jung was a Swiss psychiatrist and founder of analytical psychology whose work explored the unconscious, archetypes, individuation, dream symbolism, and personality types. His notable books include Psychological Types, Modern Man in Search of a Soul, and Man and His Symbols. His ideas deeply influenced psychotherapy, religious studies, and personality theory.
Carl Gustav Jung was born on July 26, 1875, in Kesswil, Switzerland, and grew up in a household shaped by Protestant theology and intellectual inquiry; his father was a pastor, and questions of faith, symbolism, and inner life stayed with him from childhood. He studied medicine at the University of Basel and turned toward psychiatry at a time when the field was still defining itself. At the Burghölzli clinic in Zurich, working under Eugen Bleuler, he gained early recognition for research on word association and for clinical work with patients diagnosed with schizophrenia. Those years established the empirical side of his career even as they deepened his interest in dreams, myth, and the hidden structure of personality.
