Alex North is the pseudonym of British thriller writer Steve Mosby, whose work centers on crime, psychological suspense, and eerie family drama. He is best known for The Whisper Man, as well as The Shadows and The Angel Maker; The Whisper Man became an international bestseller and was published in more than thirty languages.
Alex North is the pen name of a British crime writer born in Leeds, the city that also shaped much of his education and working life. He studied philosophy at the University of Leeds and later worked in the university’s sociology department before fiction became his central vocation. Long before the wider commercial breakthrough attached to the Alex North name, he had already built a substantial career as Steve Mosby, publishing ten crime novels and winning the Crime Writers’ Association Dagger in the Library in 2012. The decisive turning point came when he reintroduced himself under a new name and a sharper cross-genre emphasis: psychological suspense shot through with horror, grief, and family tension.
