Des études montrent que même s'ils semblent calmes en surface après une rupture, leur corps subit un stress intense, marqué par des niveaux de cortisol très élevés, prouvant que leur détachement est une façade protectrice.

    La clôture émotionnelle ne doit pas dépendre des excuses ou de la validation de l'autre, car attendre un signal de sa part revient à lui donner tout le pouvoir sur sa propre guérison. Le script suggère que la clarté vient de soi-même. Des outils comme l'écriture d'une lettre que l'on n'envoie jamais permettent d'extérioriser sa colère et son traumatisme. L'objectif est de pratiquer l'auto-empathie et de reconnaître sa propre vérité sans avoir besoin que l'ex-partenaire confirme la validité de notre souffrance.
