Barbara Ellen Kingsolver é a autora vencedora do Prêmio Pulitzer de The Poisonwood Bible (A Bíblia de Veneno), uma obra-prima literária que explora o colonialismo, a fé e a colisão cultural na África pós-colonial.

Nascida em 1955 e criada na zona rural de Kentucky, Kingsolver obteve diplomas em biologia pela DePauw University e pela University of Arizona, trazendo profundidade científica à sua narrativa. O ano de sua infância passado no Congo (1963) moldou profundamente este romance de 1998 sobre a jornada angustiante de uma família missionária na África.
