The Feedback Gap refers to the common phenomenon where individuals hesitate to provide honest or constructive feedback, even when a problem is easily fixable. This silence creates a barrier to effective communication, as most people choose to let others remain unaware of their mistakes rather than speaking up and offering a simple correction.
A pilot study at Harvard Business School highlighted the severity of communication barriers in social and professional settings. Researchers had administrators walk around with visible marks on their faces to see if people would provide feedback. Out of 155 participants, only 2.6 percent—just four people—actually pointed out the issue. This research demonstrates that the vast majority of people prefer to avoid the perceived heaviness of giving feedback, even for minor problems.
Giving constructive feedback feels heavy because it challenges our social comfort and forces us to confront potential embarrassment. I love the fact that I can get useful, condensed, information and ideas in a 8 - 15 minute podcast style audio. I'm not a general fan of podcasts because of all the fluff, but this cuts through all that.

I am finishing up my doctorate, and have to read a lot of unfamiliar material... With BeFreed, you simply enter a prompt, and the app finds source material for you and generates an audio podcast. I find the process in BeFreed to be more streamlined than NotebookLM.
