Punic wars

The Punic Wars were a series of three major conflicts fought between Ancient Rome and Carthage from 264 BC to 146 BC. These wars were primarily a struggle for supremacy in the Mediterranean region. While Rome began as a regional power within the Roman Republic, their eventual victory over the Carthaginian Empire established them as the dominant force in the ancient world.
Hannibal Barca was a brilliant Carthaginian general widely considered one of the greatest military strategists in history. During the Second Punic War, he famously led his army, including war elephants, across the Alps to invade Italy. His tactical genius was most notably displayed at the Battle of Cannae, where he handed the Roman Republic one of its most devastating military defeats.
The Battle of Cannae took place in 216 BC and is regarded as a masterpiece of military tactics. Despite being outnumbered, Hannibal Barca used a double-envelopment maneuver to surround and destroy the Roman army. This battle remains a landmark study in military history, highlighting the intense rivalry between Carthage and Ancient Rome during the height of the Punic Wars.
Scipio Africanus was the Roman general who eventually turned the tide of the Punic Wars against Carthage. By studying Hannibal’s own tactics, Scipio was able to secure victories in Spain before invading North Africa. His decisive victory at the Battle of Zama forced Hannibal to retreat and effectively ended Carthaginian resistance, earning him the title 'Africanus' and cementing Rome's future.
