C.S. Lewis was a British writer, literary scholar, and Anglican lay theologian renowned for his children's fantasy series The Chronicles of Narnia, which has sold over 100 million copies in 41 languages. He also wrote influential works on Christian apologetics, including Mere Christianity and The Screwtape Letters, and served as a notable academic at Oxford and Cambridge.
Clive Staples Lewis was born in Belfast, Ireland, on November 29, 1898, into a cultured Protestant family with a strong academic background, his mother Florence Augusta Hamilton being the first female mathematics graduate of Queen’s College Belfast. From an early age, Lewis demonstrated an affinity for reading and storytelling, inventing imaginary worlds with his brother and immersing himself in the literature and mythologies that would later inform much of his own work. The loss of his mother at age 10 marked a profound turning point, contributing to an early abandonment of his childhood faith and a lifelong exploration of grief and meaning.
