Shane Parrish is a writer and entrepreneur focused on decision-making, mental models, leadership, and behavioral psychology. He founded Farnam Street, hosts The Knowledge Project podcast, and wrote Clear Thinking and The Great Mental Models series. His work has reached a broad global audience of executives, investors, and lifelong learners.
Shane Parrish built his public reputation at the intersection of national-security discipline and wide-ranging self-education. Trained first in computer science at Dalhousie University and later earning an MBA from Royal Roads University, he spent the first phase of his career at Canada’s Communications Security Establishment in cybersecurity roles from 2001 to 2016. A major turning point came when he grew dissatisfied with education that seemed to emphasize vocabulary and case solutions more than deep understanding. In 2009, while still working in intelligence, he began a blog to record what he was learning on his own; that private notebook gradually became Farnam Street.
