Michael A. Singer

Born: May 06, 1947 – New Rochelle, New York, United States

Michael A. Singer is an American author and spiritual teacher whose work centers on mindfulness, consciousness, meditation, and inner freedom. He is best known for The Untethered Soul, along with The Surrender Experiment and Living Untethered. The Untethered Soul became a New York Times bestseller and reached a wide international readership.

Biography & Author's Journey

Michael A. Singer’s public life has unfolded along two seemingly opposite tracks: inward spiritual discipline and outward institutional achievement. At the University of Florida, he studied economics, completed undergraduate and graduate work, and began doctoral study before a deep inner awakening in 1971 altered his direction. He withdrew from a conventional academic path, devoted himself to yoga and meditation, and in 1975 founded Temple of the Universe in Alachua, Florida, as a place where people of any faith could pursue inner peace. At the same time, his career was not confined to retreat or contemplation. His official biography also credits him with creating a medical-practice software package that reshaped its industry and with serving as founding CEO of a billion-dollar public company, giving his later books an unusual authority across both spiritual and business audiences.
