Jon Ronson is a Welsh journalist, documentary filmmaker, and author who explores psychology, extremism, power, and public humiliation through immersive reportage. He is best known for The Men Who Stare at Goats, The Psychopath Test, and So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed; The Men Who Stare at Goats was adapted into a major film.
Jon Ronson grew up in Cardiff and later studied at the Polytechnic of Central London, the institution now known as the University of Westminster. A decisive early detour came when he left his course to play keyboards in Frank Sidebottom’s band, an experience that would much later feed into the film Frank. Around the same period he found a model for the kind of journalist he wanted to become in Nick Broomfield’s self-aware documentary style: inquisitive, present in the story, and unafraid of awkwardness. He began building that voice at Time Out before extending it into the Guardian, BBC radio and television, and eventually a wider transatlantic career in magazines, books and audio documentaries.
