John Eldredge

John Eldredge is an American Christian author, counselor, and teacher focused on spirituality, masculinity, prayer, and emotional healing. He is best known for Wild at Heart and has also written The Sacred Romance, Moving Mountains, and other devotional works. A New York Times bestselling author, his books and studies have sold millions of copies.

John Eldredge’s work grew out of a mix of performance, counseling, and ministry rather than a conventional literary path. Born in Los Angeles on June 6, 1960, he spent his childhood in the suburbs of Southern California but has often pointed to formative summers on his grandfather’s cattle ranch in eastern Oregon as a lasting counterweight to suburban life. He met his future wife, Stasi, in high school drama class, studied theater at California Polytechnic University, Pomona, later earned a master’s degree in counseling from Colorado Christian University under Larry Crabb and Dan Allender, and directed a theater company before moving into church and parachurch ministry. After years on staff at Sierra Madre Congregational Church, Focus on the Family, and in private counseling practice, his defining turning point came in 2000 and 2001, when he left salaried work, launched what became Ransomed Heart and then Wild at Heart, and began building a ministry around writing, teaching, and retreats.
