Humble the Poet

Born: July 12, 1981 – Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Humble the Poet, the pen name of Canadian author and spoken-word artist Kanwer Singh, writes on self-development, identity, anxiety, masculinity, and modern culture. His notable books include Unlearn, Things No One Else Can Teach Us, How to Be Love(d), and Unanxious; Unlearn was a Globe and Mail bestseller in Canada. ((https://www.humblethepoet.com/pages/books))

Biography & Author's Journey

Humble the Poet, the professional name of Kanwer Singh, built his public voice out of an immigrant Toronto upbringing that he has often treated as a source of both pressure and perspective. He has written that his parents arrived in Canada in their twenties and built a life through sacrifice, and that his father, despite holding a master’s degree, drove a cab while helping put Singh and his sisters through university. Before writing and media became his full-time work, Singh was an elementary school teacher. He later described the earliest phase of his spoken-word life with characteristic candor: reciting poems in coffee shops, initially, just to impress girls.
