Eric Weiner is an American journalist and author who writes about happiness, spirituality, philosophy, and place. A former NPR foreign correspondent, he is best known for The Geography of Bliss, as well as Man Seeks God, The Geography of Genius, and The Socrates Express, blending reportage, travel writing, and philosophy for general readers.
Eric Weiner is a Baltimore native whose career took shape at the intersection of journalism, travel, and ideas. Educated at the University of Maryland and later a Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford, he began in newspaper reporting before moving to NPR, where he spent years as a foreign correspondent based in New Delhi, Jerusalem, and Tokyo. Reporting from more than thirty countries, he covered war, politics, economics, and everyday life across regions often defined in the news by crisis. That work brought recognition, including an Angel Award for coverage of Islamic affairs in Asia and participation in NPR’s Peabody-winning tobacco investigation.
