David Schnarch was an American clinical psychologist and sex therapist known for applying differentiation theory to marriage and sexuality. He wrote Passionate Marriage, Intimacy & Desire, and Resurrecting Sex, and developed Crucible Therapy, influencing couples therapy and sex therapy through his clinical teaching, workshops, and widely read relationship books.
David Schnarch was an American clinical psychologist, certified sex therapist, and couples therapist whose work reshaped discussions of intimacy, desire, and long-term partnership. Born in the Bronx on September 18, 1946, he studied at New York University and later earned both his M.A. and Ph.D. at Michigan State. His early career included a visiting appointment at Indiana University and 17 years at Louisiana State University Medical School, where he rose to associate professor in psychiatry and urology. In 1995 he moved with his family to Evergreen, Colorado, and with his wife, psychologist Ruth Morehouse, founded the Marriage and Family Health Center. He died in Evergreen on October 8, 2020.
