Sharon Salzberg is a leading meditation teacher and New York Times bestselling author who helped introduce mindfulness and lovingkindness meditation to mainstream American culture. Co-founder of the Insight Meditation Society, she has written thirteen books, including "Lovingkindness" and "Real Happiness," and her podcast "The Metta Hour" has millions of downloads.
Sharon Salzberg, born in 1952 in New York City, rose from an early life marked by profound personal loss to become one of the preeminent voices in mindfulness and lovingkindness meditation in the West. After her parents’ divorce and her mother's death when she was nine, she lived with various relatives, navigating a childhood filled with uncertainty and change. Despite these hardships, Salzberg graduated from George Washington High School at sixteen and went on to earn her degree with highest honors from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1972, where a course in Asian philosophy introduced her to Buddhism and set her on a transformative path.
