Richard Bandler is an American author, consultant, and public speaker best known as the co-creator of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), a psychological approach developed in the 1970s with John Grinder. His notable works include "The Structure of Magic" and "Frogs into Princes," and his ideas have influenced self-help, psychotherapy, and personal development worldwide.
Richard Bandler was born on February 24, 1950, in Teaneck, New Jersey, and overcame a difficult early life marked by severe familial challenges, including claims of significant childhood abuse and the upheaval of his parents' divorce. After relocating to California with his mother, he completed high school in Sunnyvale before pursuing higher education at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he earned a BA in psychology and philosophy in 1973. He later completed his MA in psychology at Lone Mountain College in San Francisco in 1975. Bandler’s academic training in mathematics, computing, and psychology uniquely shaped his analytical and experimental approach to understanding human behavior.
