Born: March 25, 1961 – Boston, Massachusetts, United States
David Meerman Scott is an American marketing strategist and business author focused on real-time marketing, public relations, sales, and customer engagement. He is best known for The New Rules of Marketing & PR, along with books such as Newsjacking and Fanocracy; The New Rules became an international bestseller translated into 29 languages.
David Meerman Scott built his career at the intersection of markets, media, and timing. Raised in suburban Connecticut, he attended Kenyon College in Ohio, where he later wrote that the school taught him how to think and how to write, skills he has framed as central to everything that followed. After college he began on a Wall Street bond trading desk, then moved into the real-time financial information business, eventually living for years in Tokyo and Hong Kong before returning to the United States for senior marketing roles at public technology companies. The decisive turning point came in 2002, when he was fired from a CMO post and turned fully toward independent writing, speaking, and advising.
