Biography & Author's Journey

Charles Conn built an unusually cross-sector career before he became widely known as a writer. Raised in Massachusetts and educated in public schools, he attended Boston University on a full scholarship in the University Professors Program, then went to Balliol College, Oxford, as a Rhodes Scholar to study philosophy, politics, and economics, and later earned an MBA at Harvard Business School. In his own retrospective accounts, strong teachers and an early interest in biology helped shape both his intellectual range and his long-running attraction to questions of public purpose, nature, and institutional change.
