Caroline Leaf is a South African communication pathologist and author whose work focuses on mental health, neuroplasticity, and the relationship between mind and brain. Her notable books include Switch On Your Brain and Cleaning Up Your Mental Mess, which helped popularize brain-based self-help ideas for broad lay and Christian audiences.
Caroline Leaf is a communication pathologist, audiologist, and clinical and research neuroscientist whose career was shaped by South African training and decades of applied work in schools, clinics, and community settings. She earned a BSc in Logopaedics from the University of Cape Town in 1985, then completed a master’s degree in 1990 and a doctorate in 1997 in Communication Pathology at the University of Pretoria, both with distinction. Her early professional years included roles with education departments, school-based intervention programs, and a long private practice in Pretoria, where she worked with students, families, and patients facing learning difficulties, trauma, dementia, stroke, and brain injury.
