Marlen Haushofer (1920–1970) foi uma autora austríaca e escritora de A Parede, um romance distópico pioneiro que explora temas de isolamento, sobrevivência e a profunda conexão da humanidade com a natureza. Nascida Marie Helene Frauendorfer na Alta Áustria, Haushofer estudou literatura alemã em Viena e Graz antes de iniciar sua carreira literária em 1946.

Ela escrevia enquanto gerenciava as tarefas domésticas e trabalhava no consultório odontológico de seu marido, compondo em momentos roubados que descrevia como "escrever no ar". A Parede, publicado em 1963 e considerado sua maior conquista, foi meticulosamente escrito quatro vezes à mão entre 1960 e 1963.

Seu estilo introspectivo e a exploração implacável da experiência feminina também moldaram obras notáveis, incluindo Um Punhado de Vida, O Sótão e Matar Stella.
