Team lunches, social events, and some meetings serve the vital purpose of nurturing empathy, trust and collaboration. Effective team-bonding isn't about hours spent or event lavishness, but rather creating better understanding between participants. Meetings work best when they include everyone necessary and nobody extraneous. For decision-making or feedback meetings, sending materials in advance allows participants to process information thoroughly and contribute more thoughtfully. Creating environments that feel safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental helps everyone find their voice. Many managers find themselves overwhelmed by meetings that prevent deep work. Guard your time like a dragon guards treasure. If the right outcomes will happen without you, don't attend.
