Thomas à Kempis (1380-1471) foi um monge agostiniano, padre e escritor espiritual germano-holandês, mais conhecido por ser o autor de A Imitação de Cristo, uma das obras mais influentes da literatura devocional cristã na história. Nascido Thomas Hammerken em Kempen, Alemanha, ele ingressou no mosteiro de Mount St. Agnes, na Holanda, aos 19 anos, onde passou mais de sete décadas em contemplação, oração, cópia de manuscritos e orientação espiritual.

Sua escrita reflete o movimento devotio moderna, enfatizando a humildade, a devoção interior e o afastamento das distrações mundanas para cultivar um relacionamento mais profundo com Deus.

A Imitação de Cristo está estruturada em quatro tratados que abrangem a vida espiritual, a autodisciplina, o consolo interior e os sacramentos.
