The most powerful distinction in this revolutionary approach is disarmingly simple: at any moment, you're either operating above or below "the line." Above the line, you're open, curious, and committed to learning. Below it, you're closed, defensive, and obsessed with being right. This isn't about moral judgment - it's about effectiveness. Most leaders spend 95% of their time below the line without realizing it. Our brains are wired this way - the amygdala constantly scans for threats, unable to distinguish between physical dangers and ego threats like criticism in a meeting. The real problem isn't occasionally dropping below the line - that's inevitable. It's operating below while believing you're above it. This leadership blindness is epidemic.
