Osamu Dazai, nascido Shūji Tsushima (1909–1948), foi um romancista japonês e um dos escritores mais influentes da literatura japonesa do século XX, mais conhecido por sua obra-prima semiautobiográfica Declínio de um Homem (ou Não Humano).

Publicado em 1948, este romance confessional explora temas de alienação, depressão, vício e a profunda luta para se conectar com a sociedade — espelhando a própria vida turbulenta de Dazai, marcada por múltiplas tentativas de suicídio e batalhas contra a dependência.
