Roland Gérard Barthes (1915–1980) foi um teórico literário francês e pioneiro da semiótica, mais conhecido por ser o autor de Mitologias, uma coleção seminal de ensaios de 1957 que disseca as ideologias ocultas na cultura cotidiana.

Uma figura de destaque no estruturalismo e no pós-estruturalismo, Barthes combinou crítica literária, filosofia e análise cultural para expor como os meios de comunicação de massa, a publicidade e os rituais sociais reforçam as normas burguesas.
