Samuel Ichiyé Hayakawa foi um renomado semanticista e autor de Language in Thought and Action (A Linguagem no Pensamento e na Ação), uma exploração inovadora de como a linguagem molda o pensamento e o comportamento. Nascido em Vancouver, Canadá, em 1906, Hayakawa obteve seu doutorado em literatura inglesa e americana e lecionou na Universidade de Chicago e no San Francisco State College, estabelecendo-se como uma autoridade líder em semântica, propaganda e no poder das palavras.
