Orenthal James Simpson, autor do controverso livro de crimes reais If I Did It, foi um lendário running back da NFL e ator.

Nascido em 1947 em San Francisco, Simpson venceu o Heisman Trophy em 1968 e foi introduzido no Pro Football Hall of Fame em 1985. Após se aposentar do futebol americano, ele fez a transição para a atuação e transmissão, estrelando filmes como a série Corra que a Polícia Vem Aí (Naked Gun).

Seu livro apresenta um relato hipotético dos assassinatos de sua ex-esposa Nicole Brown Simpson e de seu amigo Ronald Goldman em 1994, um crime pelo qual ele foi absolvido em um julgamento criminal, mas posteriormente considerado responsável em um processo civil por morte por negligência. Originalmente retirado por sua editora, o livro foi lançado pela família Goldman e tornou-se um bestseller.
