Harlan Coben is an American thriller and mystery novelist best known for the Myron Bolitar series and standalones such as Tell No One and The Stranger. His work centers on suspense, secrets, and missing persons, and he is the first author to win the Edgar, Shamus, and Anthony awards.

Harlan Coben was born in Newark, New Jersey, on January 4, 1962, and grew up in Livingston, a suburban setting that would later echo through much of his fiction. He graduated from Livingston High School in 1980 and from Amherst College in 1984, where he studied political science, played basketball, and worked on The Amherst Student. Coben has said that Amherst sharpened his critical thinking and his ability to imagine competing viewpoints, habits that became central to his approach to suspense and character.
