The utopian vision turns into a nightmare every single time because it must. It promises to solve the 'unpleasant truths' about human nature by simply denying they exist.
So many failed instances of communism. How is it still a widely desired outcome among people especially in the USA?

Communist Chic refers to the modern trend where symbols like the hammer and sickle and Marxist ideologies reappear in popular culture and social media profiles. This resurgence is visible on platforms like X and Twitch, where figures like Hasan Piker engage thousands by reading Lenin’s pamphlets. Despite the historical context of the twentieth century, this aesthetic and political movement has gained a new following among younger generations who view these symbols through a different lens than those who lived through the Cold War.
Recent data suggests a significant shift in public opinion regarding socialism in America. A Fox News poll indicated that 38% of Americans now believe moving toward socialism would be a good thing, a record high compared to just 18% in 2010. This trend is driven by younger generations who may not associate the term with the Cold War or the Gulag, but instead see it as a seductive alternative to current systems, even as older generations remain skeptical of the ideology's historical failures.
The trend involves a diverse range of groups including 'tankies' and 'MAGA Communists' who maintain a strong presence on digital platforms. Influential streamers like Hasan Piker play a role by discussing the works of Lenin and mourning the fall of the USSR. Additionally, mainstream publications have contributed to the conversation, such as Teen Vogue celebrating the legacy of Karl Marx. These entities help fuel the debate over why an ideology with a complex and often tragic history continues to trend in the 21st century.
