    “

A boundary without a consequence is just a suggestion. You don't need their permission to have a boundary; you just need your own resolve.

JADE stands for Justify, Argue, Defend, and Explain. The script explains that when you provide reasons for your boundaries, you are often giving a manipulator "False Curiosity" or an opening to negotiate. For example, if you say you can't do something because of a budget, a pushy person will simply offer a sale. By refusing to JADE, you signal that your "no" is a complete sentence and does not require a permit or an explanation to be valid.

The DESC Method is a four-step scripted playbook designed to address disrespect objectively. First, you Describe the behavior factually without using "you" statements. Second, you Express how the behavior impacts you or makes you feel. Third, you Specify the exact change you want to see. Finally, you state the Consequences that will occur if the behavior continues. This shifts the focus from an emotional argument to a professional statement of reality.

The script suggests several physical techniques, such as the "Elevator Party" drill, where you consciously shift from a "prey" posture (hunched shoulders, avoiding eye contact) to "party energy" (open chest, relaxed breath). Another tool is the "Neutral Face," which involves maintaining a calm, serious expression rather than a "please-like-me" smile. For those who find eye contact intimidating, focusing on the bridge of the person's nose can project confidence while reducing the intensity for the speaker.

When you change your behavior, dominant people often experience an "extinction burst," where they push harder or become more aggressive to force you back into your old, passive patterns. The script advises expecting this "re-adjustment" period and holding your ground. You can use the "Broken Record" technique—repeating a single, calm phrase—to avoid being pulled into a new argument, or use a "Meta-Comment" like "That’s a weird thing to say" to highlight their inappropriate delivery.

The script recommends "Systematic Desensitization," which means practicing "no" in low-stakes situations, like refusing a credit card offer at a store, to build the muscle for larger conflicts. It also suggests "Adaptive Anxiety Reappraisal," where you reframe the physical sensation of a racing heart as your body getting energized to protect you. Finally, keeping a "Documentation Journal" of disrespectful interactions can provide a "Reality Anchor" that validates your decision and reduces the urge to feel guilty for protecting your peace.
