The platform thrives on simplicity-rather than lengthy content, Tumblr specializes in quick visual inspiration through photos, videos, charts, quotes and Q&As. Its fast-paced, creative, irreverent nature gives it street credibility with younger audiences.
Vine, the app allowing users to post looping 6-second video clips, exploded in popularity after its January 2013 launch, becoming iTunes' top free app within just three months. Owned by Twitter, Vine functions similarly to Twitter and Instagram-users share video clips on the network while also having the ability to embed them in Twitter and Facebook posts. The app's simple interface lets users record clips by tapping their smartphone screen-recording only while the screen is pressed-allowing for either continuous shots or stop-motion filming to condense longer events into the 6-second limit.
SlideShare, often overlooked as a visual marketing platform, is actually a powerful business network ranked among the world's top 200 websites. With 60 million monthly visitors and 130 million monthly page views, it has earned recognition as "the world's largest professional content sharing community." The platform allows users to upload presentations, webinars, Word and PDF files, tag them, and share them across SlideShare or other social media sites like LinkedIn, or embed them in blogs and company websites. The platform is particularly effective for community building, demonstrating expertise, and lead generation, especially in the B2B sphere.
Google+ offers businesses a unique blend of LinkedIn's professional networking, Facebook's usability, and Twitter's news aspects, with distinctive advantages in its openness, community features, and streaming capabilities. Launched in November 2011 with brand pages, Google+ stands out with its visual prominence-cover photos can be up to 2,120 by 1,192 pixels, dominating profiles and demanding high-quality imagery. The platform's key strengths include Circles (allowing targeted sharing with specific audiences), Hangouts (for private video chats or public broadcasts that automatically post to YouTube), and Ripples (graphical analytics showing content spread).
