Yaa Gyasi es la autora ghanesa-estadounidense de Volver a casa (Homegoing), una galardonada novela de ficción literaria que explora la raza, la esclavitud y el trauma generacional a través de la diáspora africana. Nacida en Ghana en 1989 y criada en Alabama, Gyasi publicó Volver a casa a los 26 años, una ambiciosa novela histórica que abarca tres continentes y ocho generaciones.

Su exploración del linaje y el colonialismo se inspiró en una visita realizada en 2009 al Castillo de Cape Coast, un fuerte de esclavos que transformó su comprensión del comercio transatlántico de esclavos y la complicidad africana en la esclavitud. Gyasi obtuvo su MFA en el Iowa Writers' Workshop.
