He immediately blamed Magruder: "This whole goddam thing is because Magruder pushed me." He revealed they'd broken in previously to plant a transmitter and photograph documents, but returned because the device malfunctioned.
Liddy admitted using McCord was "a serious mistake" but blamed Magruder's budget cuts. When I asked about Hunt, he explained Hunt had recruited the arrested Cubans. Most alarmingly, Liddy implicated Gordon Strachan as possibly knowing about the operation-which meant Haldeman and potentially the President knew.
