John W. Dean is an American author, legal commentator, and former White House counsel whose writing focuses on presidential power, conservatism, and the Watergate era. His notable books include Blind Ambition and Conservatives Without Conscience. Dean’s Watergate testimony made him a central public figure in modern U.S. political history.
John W. Dean emerged from conventional legal training into one of the most consequential political dramas in modern American history. Born in Akron, Ohio, in 1938, he studied at Colgate University and the College of Wooster before earning his J.D. with honors from Georgetown University Law Center in 1965. His early work as chief minority counsel to the House Judiciary Committee and then as an associate deputy attorney general marked him as a fast-rising Republican lawyer. Nixon elevated him to White House counsel in 1970, when Dean was only thirty-one, placing him close to the center of executive power. ((https://www.britannica.com/biography/John-Wesley-Dean-III))
