Ken Blanchard

Born: May 06, 1939 – Orange, New Jersey, United States

Ken Blanchard is a leadership expert, speaker, and coauthor of The One Minute Manager, whose work focuses on management, servant leadership, and organizational performance. Through more than 60 books, translated into dozens of languages and selling tens of millions of copies, he has influenced leadership training and management practice worldwide.

Biography & Author's Journey

Ken Blanchard’s career grew from a strong academic foundation into one of the most recognizable bodies of work in modern management writing. Born in Orange, New Jersey, and raised in New York, he studied government and philosophy at Cornell University, earned a master’s degree in sociology and counseling from Colgate University, and returned to Cornell for a doctorate in education administration and leadership. He then moved into university teaching, including service at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he taught undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students. An early turning point came through his collaboration with Paul Hersey: their 1969 textbook Management of Organizational Behavior introduced the situational approach that would become central to his leadership thinking.
