Julia Cameron

Born: March 04, 1948 – Libertyville, Illinois, United States

Julia Cameron is an American author focused on creativity, artistic practice, and personal growth. She is best known for The Artist’s Way, a landmark self-help guide for artists that popularized “morning pages.” Her books on creative recovery and writing have sold millions of copies worldwide and been translated into multiple languages.

Biography & Author's Journey

Julia Cameron built her career from an early conviction that she was, above all, a writer. Born in Libertyville, Illinois, she entered Georgetown University as an Italian major, only to meet a campus culture that, by her later account, discouraged women from imagining themselves as authors. She transferred to Fordham, kept publishing poems, and moved into journalism, first through work at The Washington Post and then through assignments for Rolling Stone and the Village Voice. Those years gave her both professional momentum and a close view of literary and media worlds that were still heavily male, sharpening the independence that would define the rest of her career.
